comics LAB

Create your own comics, characters, and visual stories in a fun, hands-on studio camp for young artists and storytellers.

bring your story to life.

The week-long Comics Lab camp helps students turn ideas into original comics, characters, and visual stories. Students explore drawing, dialogue, page layouts, pacing, and storytelling techniques while creating comics in their own unique style.

BUILD SKILLS. MAKE STORIES.

Each session includes a comics lesson followed by guided workshop time. Students might design characters, sketch scenes, practice expressions, create 4-panel comics, or develop a longer comic project from idea to finished page.

A CREATIVE experience FOR EVERY ARTIST

Comics Lab is designed for students aged 10-15 with all experience levels, learning styles, and abilities. Beginners can learn the basics of visual storytelling, while experienced artists can strengthen their style, explore new ideas, and build confidence in a supportive creative environment.

  • Comics Lab Camp is for kids and teens ages 10–15 who love drawing, manga, cartoons, superheroes, graphic novels, funny comics, character design, or visual storytelling. No prior experience is needed.

  • Not at all. This camp is about creativity, storytelling, experimentation, and skill-building - not perfection. Students are encouraged to create in their own style.

  • Students will create original comic pages, characters, story ideas, and visual storytelling exercises. Depending on interest and experience, some students may work toward a short finished comic.

  • Basic drawing supplies will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks, markers, tablets, digital drawing tools, or favorite materials.

  • Yes! Attune Arts programs are designed to be welcoming and inclusive of different personalities, communication styles, learning differences, and support needs.

Because this is a group program, students who require significant individualized assistance, medical, and/or behavioral support should have their caregiver available.

  • Yes! Future Comics Lab workshops or ongoing sessions may be offered at Gorton Center, based on interest and enrollment. One-on-one and small-group creative sessions are also available year-round through Attune Arts. Learn more here →
